Frames, columns and readable text

Draw a frame around your page, choose the side your page sits on, and keep text readable on any wallpaper.

Where: Studio → look

The adjust part of the look drawer (in the classic editor, the look section) sets how your whole page sits on its wallpaper. Everything starts on “as the layout”, so nothing on your page changes until you pick something.

Surface

As the layout, None, One card, A card each, Floating

Default: As the layout

What sits behind your content. None lets it float straight on the wallpaper, One card puts it all on a single card, A card each gives every group its own card. This is separate from the Glass, Solid and Outline styles in Cards and surfaces.

Works on: Identity, After Dark, Spotlight, Panel, Halo · partly Terminal, Desktop 98, Old Web, Sticker

Frame

None, Inked, Double, Lace, Print, Viewfinder, Gilt

Default: None

A drawn border around the whole screen, in a style you can see on each tile. It draws itself in when the page opens, and stays still if the visitor has reduced motion turned on. Print, Viewfinder (corner brackets and a running timecode) and Gilt are yumu pro.

Works on: Every layout

Frame colour

Default: From your art

Leave it alone and the frame takes a colour from your wallpaper. Pick one to set it yourself, or tap from your art to go back. With no wallpaper to read, it uses your accent colour.

Works on: Every layout

Column

As the layout, Centre, Left, Right, Auto

Default: As the layout

Which side of a wide screen your page sits on, so it can leave the best part of your wallpaper clear. Auto picks the calmer side for you. On phones the page always uses the full width.

Works on: Identity, After Dark, Spotlight, Panel, Halo

Spacing

Packed to airy

Default: Middle

How much room there is between the groups on your page, and how big the picture and link buttons are. Some layouts only use it for page padding.

Works on: Identity, After Dark, Spotlight, Bento, Panel, Halo · partly Editorial, Terminal, Desktop 98, Old Web, Sticker

Corners

As the layout, Sharp, Soft, Pill, Cut

Default: As the layout

The corner shape of your cards and links. Cut needs a card, so it only shows where the layout draws one.

Works on: Identity, After Dark, Spotlight, Bento, Editorial, Panel · partly Halo

Colours follow my art

On / Off

Default: Off

Your accent, name, text and card colors come from your wallpaper. Change the wallpaper and they change too. Touch any color picker and the page switches back to your own colors, starting from the ones it had been using. Needs a picture, GIF or video wallpaper.

Works on: Identity, After Dark, Spotlight, Bento, Editorial, Terminal, Old Web, Panel, Sticker, Halo · partly Desktop 98

Readable text, always

On / Off

Default: On

Where your wallpaper would make text hard to read, yumu adds a soft shadow or shade behind it, and nowhere else. A pale wallpaper with white text is fixed automatically. Turn it off if you want your text raw.

Works on: Identity, After Dark, Spotlight, Bento, Editorial, Panel, Halo

Tip

Studio → look also has the one-tap looks above these settings. Pick one, then adjust from there.

Note

Your own text colors are never swapped for others. Readable text adds a shadow or a shade first, and only changes a color you left on its default.
